Beyond the Rift is a multifandom and original roleplaying game based in an alternate Chicago. The game is highly plot-driven and fast-moving, and relies heavily on character development and quality writing.
In this world, there are ordinary humans, the mundane world everyone knows of. There are also people with abilities and callings far beyond what ordinary people would ever believe is possible - angels, demons, and the rare crossbreeds, nephilim, or humans with unique abilities to change shapes, or manipulate elements, or any number of other things. For millennia, they’ve managed to avoid being noticed by the mundane world at large. The angels and demons waged an underground war with each other, while the supernatural humans joined in the war or just tried to keep their heads down and fit in.
The largest rift in the world lies in Chicago, and these days, it’s growing. The Rift is a hole in space and time, a hole in the universe, and things are falling through from other universes all the time - objects, creatures, and people. People who fall through are known as wanderers, and are changed by their passage through the Rift, developing or losing abilities, or being altered physically in one way or another. The presence of the wanderers in Chicago has begun to disrupt the delicate balance the angels and demons have worked out over the centuries.
At the moment, the angels and demons have worked out a peace treaty within Chicago, which is all for the best, because more strange and dangerous things fall through the Rift everyday, while ordinary humans begin to take notice and get nervous… Some wanderers try to find a way to reverse the Rift and get home, while others try to make a place for themselves in this universe, and among the natives, even a peace treaty signed by a First Angel and a Nephilim can’t end a conflict that stretches back millennia that easily. Chicago’s one of the more dangerous places to live in this universe and yet, to many, willingly or not, it’s home.
