Rules

General Rules

  • Be respectful of other players. This is the common courtesy rule, boys and girls. Be mature, be decent and keep all that OOC drama for the llamas, cause we don’t want it in our game.

  • Slash is very much allowed, as are threesomes/foursomes/however many folks you’d like. All we ask is that you mark all R/NC-17 logs or threads appropriately and place the logs behind a cut.
  • Players are welcome and encouraged to create their own plots that other players can get involved with. However, if you plan on creating a plot that you know will affect other players’ characters directly, you must contact them. Plots that would affect the entire game must be discussed with the mod first.
  • No Godmoding. You may not write out someone else’s character doing or saying something, or have your character do something to someone else’s character, unless you have permission to do so. This obviously doesn’t apply to things like a character touching another as they chat, or the like, but anything drastic must have permission. When in doubt, talk to the other player.
  • All in-game posts and tags must use proper spelling and grammar - no chatspeak whatsoever, no emoticons. And to keep it consistent between posts; it would help if it’s in third person, present tense. These rules don’t apply to journal entries - characters are allowed to have bad grammar or spelling or draw in smileys or whatever. But in actual roleplay posts with narration and so on… no. Posts and tags violating this rule will get a warning to change it if it’s a long post or tag - if it’s just a short paragraph-long thing, they will be deleted.
  • All posts and tags must be at least a paragraph long (5-8 sentences minimum). One or two tags below this will not get you in trouble, but most tags should be consistently at or above this level.
  • In-character actions lead to in-character consequences. While no one’s allowed to kill someone else’s characters for no good reason, if your character has backed themselves into a corner where serious injury or death is impossible to escape, do not expect the other players to bend their characterization to keep your character alive. If there’s no way out for your character, they have to deal with the consequences of their actions, and will not be rescued just because their player doesn’t want those consequences.
  • Keep in mind that your characters cannot get money or things requiring money from nowhere, and wanderers especially have limited resources because they don’t have any identification from this universe. This won’t be strictly enforced, but if your characters consistently have things they shouldn’t have been able to acquire, the mods will call you on it. Pets and pregnancies/babies require mod approval.

Applications, Activity, Etc.

  • You must wait two weeks between one character being accepted and the next being applied. This is to give players a chance to establish new characters before bringing in more.

  • Each player is allowed a maximum of ten characters in the game at a time.
  • Characters from an animated or illustrated medium must have a photographic PB. You can apply and play someone from your favourite animated series, of course, but you need to find an actor or model or other person whose pictures you can use for icons to be that character’s PB. Exceptions can be made if there are physical characteristics that are not possible in a photographic PB, or if there is just no person out there who looks remotely like your character, but the exceptions will be made at the mods’ discretion, and you have to present a pretty compelling argument. If you’re having trouble finding a photographic PB, send us a couple images of the character and we’ll see if we can’t dig something up for you. We want to help - help us help you.
  • PLEASE LJ-TAG YOUR POSTS. We cannot stress this enough. We use LJ’s tagging system to keep track of activity and to look up older posts for modly reasons. Failure to use your character’s tag will result in a warning. Too many warnings, especially in too short a time, will result in us beginning to delete your posts without warning if they still do not have the character tag after a reasonable amount of time.
  • Players are expected to keep characters active. Periodic activity checks are performed - as long as you post once a month, you should clear the activity check without any trouble. If an activity check shows your character to be inactive, you will be given a week to post or tag them before they are removed from the game. If we have to warn you about your activity several times, your character may be dropped at the next activity check without the usual grace period.
  • Anyone may send characters out of town with the intention of bringing them back in the future - just let the mods know and they will be moved to the “nonlocal characters” section. Nonlocal characters are still able to communicate with other characters on the journals, although they may not post or tag in the game. To bring a non-local character back into the game, simply fill out a shortened version of the application that lets the mods know what they’ve been doing, why they decided to return to Chicago, etc.

For Fandom Characters

  • Canon-puncture is dealt with by the players. If the mun of the character expresses a desire to not have their character canon-punctured, then that’s that. End of story. On the other hand, if they seem to be fine with it, then by all means, have at it!

  • Animated PBs are only allowed if it is impossible to find a photographic PB for your character. If you think you should be allowed to use the original artwork as the character’s PB, you’ll have to present a very compelling argument. This rule is not retroactive, and only affects new applications.
  • Any magics or supernatural powers that a wanderer has that are based in something in the wanderer’s home universe, rather than within the wanderer will not be allowed. For example, if any character from the Wheel of Magic series were to come into the Rift, they would not be able to use their magic, as the magic is not part of them, and is simply something they have the ability to tap into in their home universe. Conversely, any character from the Tortallan or Harry Potter universes would be able to retain their magic, as it comes from within them and exists within them. Things like “The Force” from Star Wars, which is basically a magic system that is just renamed to something not magic, are included in this rule.
  • This last part isn’t a rule so much as it is a suggestion. If you are playing a character from a fandom and there are other characters from the same fandom already in play, it might be good to get together and talk to their muns OOC. As stated before, it’s certainly not a rule but might be nice for all who are involved.
